The Logic of Owning a Business
Hello people of the internet. MR. Logicka again. For today, I would like to write about owning a business. Seeing the current situation, it makes sense for us to discuss about it you know. This pandemic era has affected majority of the population in any country. Undeniably, there are a lot of negative effects towards us individually or as a family that try to survive. In the spirit of taking my own advises from the previous two writings, maybe we can discuss the positive outcomes that we can create from this situation.
A lot of business owner and entrepreneur has forced to close their business during this period of times. And we have yet to see some innovative thinking to tackle these problems. Well at least not yet in my country. There are a few but not enough to bring up the morale of all the business owners in this country, Malaysia. (Let us not talk about our government for once). I found that there are some entrepreneurs creating a business what you called as Cloud Kitchen, where there is no physical restaurant for dine in but only for delivery purposes. They rent out a space just for a kitchen, to cook and accept online orders. It sounds interesting, no?
There are of course a bunch of online sellers that start to be more active during this time due to, we are hugely dependent on delivery to buy stuff. Which is still good but is it good enough for us to get out of this economy challenges? I am not sure myself. I believe that we are missing something, something innovative enough to get us out from this problem.
There were times where we encourage all young people to be creative and create something new, so we can create more job opportunity. Isn’t it the time to start doing that again? I mean a lot of us has some depression issue already so why not we encourage each other to get out there and create new business opportunity. I do not say I have THE business and THE solution, but we can discuss this until we can find IT.
Most of the times I do not even know what I am saying though. :P. However, yes this is what I feel. We still missing that. No need to just sit and wait it out, until the movement restriction is over, or until the virus gone and the daily cases to drop down. I mean this is it guys, if you have lost something, what is there left to lose then? If you are doing good, why don’t you make it better? If you feel depressed, well is just by sitting in you room will make it better then?
I think we can take this opportunity to get out of our shell. We are all ‘trapped’ in our own home anyway, there is no stranger around to judge you anymore. So why don’t we take this opportunity to create something new, to start your own business and go with it. Or try those ideas that you have been sitting on for a long time now.
Do not worry, I am quite aware owning a business is not an easy job. I am not ignorant mind you. 😊 . But that is exactly my point, if you were comfortable before and now you feel frustrated due to finance problems. So then, why not you start to work on that hard process? Either way you would find it hard to continue on anyway, right? And of course, we will think that we need fund or anything to start our business. But in this modern era, you can start with anything in hand. Start to make online garage sales for example, to get fund. Go join dropship, grab, or sell something you can sell. To get that start up money. Or maybe create a Kickstarter campaign or something along that line. Whatever it is for you to start.
After that you can execute. You know sometimes you have these ideas, and you keep it to yourself because you do not believe it is possible to make it a reality. Then times goes by and all of sudden you can see that your idea was executed by someone else. That would be frustrating, no? So, better to try and fail to know that it is a failure yourself rather than not give it a try and end up knowing, it could be a success by looking at someone else doing it.
My writing today is a bit mix up, I guess. I am not focusing on how to build and own a business as you might expect by reading the tittle. Rather, I am more interested to get us to start. Yes, by us I mean me and you readers. What? You think I am successful businessman and that is why I write this? No! Hahaha, I am just like you, stuck in this problematic period and this is me try to encourage myself and you, to start exploring your old ideas and make it a business.
You know let me share one idea I had and how recently I found that, that idea was already implemented in other country for a long time. Back when I was studying for my bachelor’s degree, around 2011 – 2015, We have this one class called Entrepreneurship. So, we need to create a business as a group project, then to present it to our lecturer. I had this one idea for us to create a vending machine like, machine but to use it as a Recycle machine. You know, if you pun in empty bottles or aluminium inside then you can get money from it. However, the group rejected the idea and when for 3D-printing project instead (which was a hype during that time. It still is I think).
And recently I found that there is a machine like that. In Germany, but from what I read, when they bought recyclable items there would be like a deposit needed to be paid and you can get back this deposit if you use the Recycle Machine or something like that. So there, my point is your idea might be a good idea and given that you do not have a time to execute it before. I would say this is the time for you to start trying. When you have extra time in your hand (with all work from home arrangement).
I believe, there are a lot of people out there that like to be your own Boss rather than work for someone right? And more importantly, it would be yours and whatever effort you poured into it would be for sure 100% because you know the failure and success would be yours, and yours alone. And speaking of being a Boss, one of my motivators, (Gary Vee) advise is that a business owner should NOT expect their worker to give their 100% effort and focus to bring profit to the business. It is only logic the business is not theirs and they have life of their own. So, you cannot say ‘you need to care because I pay you’. You pay them for their time and expertise and skills but not for a 100% focus and commitment for them to work like the business is their own. When you have this line of thinking when you own a business then you would feel frustrated all by yourself hence leads for you to fire and re-hire over and over.
Your worker can be sick any time of day and refuse to do the work. They can take time off and spend it with their family. They should be allowed to think about other things during work. Why? It is as simple as because the business is not theirs and they have their own life. Okay enough about that. So, come on guys, I know it is scary and seems like it does not make sense to build and own a business now but to me because of that it is kind of the right time to start. Is that make sense? (^_^)
I do not know why but I really believe that it is the right time. We just need to see it from a different angle or perspectives, I guess. And I do not sure if this writing of mine can make you also share this believe.
I think I am ending it here today. Good day.
